My Views on Feminism

I agree with all the legitimate issues that feminism is currently dealing with  like equality for wages etc. I agreed  that woman have basically all the same opportunities that men have employment wise and with the fact that this is a victory for feminists. If  a woman and doing the same amount and quality of work as a man, then yes, you should get paid the same amount, if you do better work than that man, you should get paid more. What angers me is when feminists get all riled up by the topic of feminism and get irrational and start demanding equal pay solely because they are woman and have been discriminated against. I have heard fellow female students complain that they go to school and work and then have to do the housework while there boyfriend/ husband works but doesn't do any work at home. I live in this situation - but he also works hard and pays our mortgage - so I can go to school.  It needs to be even.

The largest issue that bothers me with feminism is chivalry. I am not against chivalry but I find it ironic that women protest and form picket lines etc for equality but at the end of the day they want/expect special treatment because they are women. Women want equal rights and equal pay and equal opportunity because of their sex but then complain when you treat them as equals in any casual situation. A double standard has been created in which they expect equality in formal/professional situations then revert to the old-school norms when it comes to informal/casual/courting instances.

As for the family aspect of this post I believe my fiance and I have a very healthy balance/relationship as far as a feminist would be concerned. In our house there are no pink or blue jobs, we do what we are good at or enjoy doing and in most cases the area that one person doesn't enjoy the other does so there are no gaps. I have slight OCD on how the dishwasher is loaded and he is picky about vacuuming - Voila - no issue. We take turns being responsible for making dinner and we both always pitch in to 'tidy' our house.

As a female, I am glad that there are those hard headed feminists - without them, I wouldn't be able to vote, would have hardly any rights etc.. but I think they need to realize that it isn't the man's fault - maybe just societies!!
